LCHS cheerleaders competed at the 2021 Regional Cheerleading Competition, November 6 at Lincoln High School following A Region 2.

This is the biggest competition for the team, and it is what they work towards the majority of the season.

The AA Region 2 performance consisted of eight teams, Lewis County, Lincoln, Robert C. Byrd, Philip Barbour, Clay County, Elkins, Roane County, Braxton County, all eyeing a regional title and a trip to States.

Liberty, last year’s winner, did not compete.

Lewis placed third just falling short to Robert C. Byrd, second place, and Lincoln, first place.

LCHS served as Big 10 host, but the ladies were unable to compete due to a last minute injury the night before. Bridgeport claimed the first placed and Fairmont Senior placed second. The cheer squad attended and showed their support to the other teams competing.

The team consists of 20 girls, 4 of them being seniors. Malena Brown, Sarah Hull, Kristen Simmons and Kailee Posey. The rest of team is made up 7 juniors and 9 freshmen. The team said they are excited to see what the next season holds after having what most described as “a fun one” this year. The girls say that their bond is their favorite aspect of being on the team.

They are under the direction of Head Coach Catie Nichols and Assistant Coach Braylen Hughes and Volunteer Assistant Beth Nichols.

The team will continue cheering for girls’ and boys’ basketball and will end its season in March.
