Water Woes Strike LCHS

H2O. Aqua. Water.

Whatever readers call it, LCHS students, faculty and staff are without it January 11.

Due to a water-main break, water was shut off mid-day, Mr. John Whiston, principal, said. Bathroom doors were locked and trash bags were placed over the water fountains to keep students out of them.

During third period, it was announced that the water at LCHS had been shut off.  Whiston said he hopes the water will be restored during lunch.

Efforts were made during third period accommodate the water needs.

Administrators provided a bus which shuttled students to the new bus garage to use the restroom.  Max Anderson went on every bus trip to help keep track of the students. The school administrators also brought in bottled water and hand sanitizer.

Kylie Pittman, junior, said, “The bus itself sucks; it was really crowded and most are taking advantage of it. Half of the people on the bus didn’t even use the restroom, they just wasted time and space to get out of class.”

Ulysses Koos, also a junior, elaborated and agreed by saying, “The bus was very packed and rowdy. The trip was short at least, and I’m very thankful for that. Being here is risky and a health risk so I don’t agree with it.”

Darian Meza, sophomore, believed that the no-water issue wasn’t a big deal and that people should calm down about it. Many students including Ally Rinker, senior, and Charlotte Dotson, freshman believed that students should be able to go home.

The water is now running but students will not be able to drink from the fountains or use the sinks at the school until about 12:00 pm tomorrow.

Clorox wipes are currently in the restrooms for teachers and students alike as an alternate method to cleanse their hands.
