Shoe collections. Leadership conferences. Fundraisers. Lunchtime meetings. Competition preparations.
The LCHS Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) club members have been working on curricular and extracurricular activities benefiting the school and community.
“We have done a lot of community service. We wanted to help local communities,” Brady Smith, sophomore, said. Smith is the treasurer of FBLA and has been a club member for nearly two years.
The LCHS FBLA club is under the leadership of Mrs. Sarah Lough, adviser, and Mrs. Turner, co-adviser.
FBLA is a co-curricular program with the LCHS Career and Technical Education (CTE) business program. Both advisers currently teach CTE business classes at LCHS and have been for three years as of 2023.
The advisers are currently focusing on quality growth over quantity growth. They desire to have more involved members who are willing to participate and learn.
“I wish to show how important this club can be. It can be serious, but it can have a massive impact on your future,” Lough said.
According to Faith Heater, senior and the current FBLA Historian, “The club provides opportunities for students in and out of school. Students who join FBLA have the chance to gain community service, get graduation cords, network, and learn life-long leadership skills.” Heater added, “my experiences from the club have been fun. Community service, meetings, and connecting with students from all grade levels has been exciting. I got to decorate a float to promote the club, and it was an amazing experience.”
“Future Business Leaders of America, Inc. is the largest Career and Technical Student Organization in the world,” as stated on the official FBLA website (www.fbla.org). FBLA inspires and prepares students to become leaders in the business industry through relevant career preparation and leadership experiences.
This club is available for students at a middle school, high school and college level in public educational institutions across the United States of America. According to the website, once an individual becomes a FBLA member, they become an alumnus forever.
“FBLA is a club that focuses on helping students prepare for the business world while also giving students skills they can use in their daily lives. Mock interviews, career competitions, community service, and job skills are all things FBLA allows members to experience,” Smith said.
